First Works
PART I:   FAITH

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

                                                            Hebrews 11:1 KJV

From Above

At this point, lets begin to explore the answers on how-to walk-in faith and what is the process or foundation to faith into righteousness. We should now have a great understanding of what it means to believe in the Son of God. We understand, what it means to follow after the “works” of the law.  We understand that the Word of God is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit in heaven. And we understand that the Spirit which agree as one with the blood and water are upon the earth.  We also, can confirm that the foundational Spirit is truth. With this understanding let’s read Romans 10.  We will begin with a few verses at a time so we can get a clear understanding of what is being taught.

Romans 10:1-3 KJV

  1. Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

  2. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

  3. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Paul wrote this letter to Israel. He begins by saying they have a zeal of God but not according to knowledge. This is an important statement it shows the dedication of Israel. Zeal means to have great energy and in pursuit of, or in devotion to. They were striving to live for God but in an ignorant manner. They thought they were following after God and was still in His favor.  However, their thinking was flawed and because of it, they did not submit unto the righteousness of God.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

We see here in verse 4-9 why they were ignorant. At this point Christ has died for the sin of man and bought an end to the written law.  Because the law was completed from the “works” which could no longer bring about righteousness without first one believing in Christ as being the Son of God in the flesh and having faith into righteousness. Verse 6-7 says that faith does not ask in your heart who sent the Son from heaven and again raised him from the dead. But faith is already made manifest through the word of God. It is already in you. Now, all you have to do is confess with your mouth and believe in your heart and you will be saved. Take note belief and faith are separate. Faith has already been imparted. Belief is an action in activating faith. Another important thought to keep in mind is that at this point in scripture Christ’s resurrection was not known throughout the land as fast as news travel in today’s time.  After the end of the law of ‘works” it would have taken some time for the news to go out and explanations to be understood. Also, we are referring to hardheaded people, who by the law have been practicing their whole life, to accept an abrupt change in their religious activities. The law itself speaks of the coming of a prophet which we know today as the Prophet Isaiah.

Deuteronomy 18:15 KJV

   15. The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Isaiah 53:1-6 KJV

  1. Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

  2. For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

  3. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

  4. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

  5. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

  6. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 9:6 KJV

   6. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah speaks of the coming of Christ. This information is known throughout the followers of the law. However, there were still a lot of confusion from unbelievers that Christ was that child. Paul was concerned for them because they should have known by now that the prophesy was fulfilled and they having that zeal of God should have heeded to the beginning of Faith through belief in the Son of God unto righteousness.

Romans 10:10-13 KJV

  13.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

Here we see that the heart plays an important roll into believing. Believing is not said to come from the mind but as unto the heart.  Afterwards, a confession is made with the mouth, openly confessing your belief in the Son of God, the Christ. Note that verse 11 says that the believer should not be ashamed. This is because anyone that believe in their heart and confess with their mouth if they are ashamed they are casting doubt unto their belief. If you are ashamed of your confession, how can you walk boldly in the gospel of Christ and walk in faith unto righteousness.

Romans 10:14-16 KJV

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

Paul asks a series of questions here. He is wondering why Israel has not already become believers. They have had many preachers and have heard of the coming, the great Prophet Isaiah spoke to them regarding Christ. They were waiting in expectation of the Messiah. However, they still did not believed when the time came.
